Advantages and Disadvantages of a Flat Bed Screen Printing Machine

Printed electronics is one of the fastest-growing manufacturing industries today, requiring high volumes of quality output to ensure the functionality of final products.flat bed screen printing machine However, the traditional flatbed screen printing process can be difficult to scale up for industrial production because of its inherent limitations. Rotary screen printing provides a robust, future-proof solution for manufacturers looking to achieve greater speed and size without compromising quality or efficiency.

The main advantages of a flat bed screen printing machine are that it prints different designs, CMYK, and can print any width of fabric. However, the disadvantages are that it is a start/stop operation, it takes a lot of time to change the screens and its results can be inconsistent. It is also difficult to print all-over designs on a flatbed printer because there will be a gap in the middle.

In addition, the printing is limited to a flat surface and can only be used on cotton or polyester fabrics, and it cannot print on a plastic. The printing also uses a large amount of chemicals that are not good for the environment. The rotary screen, on the other hand, is eco-friendly and does not produce any toxic chemicals. It is also safer for the workers to use as there are fewer chemical fumes in the workplace.

For industrial-scale production, it is necessary to maximize workflow efficiency and reduce downtime for equipment maintenance and repairs. This is a significant challenge for many textile manufacturers who rely on flatbed screen printing methods, which have numerous limitations that make them less efficient in high-volume production environments.

Compared to rotary screen printing, flatbed print quality can be inconsistent and has a high risk of misregistration due to the flat nature of the screens. This can result in poor color matching and ultimately compromise the overall quality of the finished product.

A flat-bed screen printing machine is an advanced version of hand screen-printing that utilizes 4 – 12 colors through mesh screens by squeeze method. It includes a fabric feeding device, a rubber blanket that is glued to stick the fabric to avoid distortion during printing, a number of screens according to required colors, a flatbed printing table, and a scrapper to squeeze the dye paste. The screens are engraved with some open and some blocked portions that can be filled with the dye when the scrapper presses it.

The aluminum rings are used to hold the screens in the machine. It is a very delicate process and requires precision and skill to maintain the shape of the frames. The magnet bars have two main functions: they help to control the printing depth using pressure, and they prevent the squeegee from choking on the edges of the screen. The large magnet bars are used to control blotch printing, and the small ones focus on outlines for sharp prints.
